Mountains Land and Bloom

Reflect my continual fascination with land and the natural world. My starting point is usually in situ, a beach a field but from direct observation. This to me is a constant challenge, sky, water, atmospheric effects along with the feeling and expression become part of the subject matter. Later these initial watercolour paintings are worked more freely through imagination.

The island the mountain and the path become symbolic of the greater journey. In the watercolours which are started from observation and continue to be developed later, challenging memory and applying imagination, the play of erosion both by time and memory which leaves the edge symbolic. This becomes the new simplicity containing the complex. Time and land can be external or an internal reality. They are a simple way of encountering huge concepts.

Inspired by colour and processes of memory, she uses photography to record her travels.
